The essential point is not the removal of the foreign material by quantity and force, but
reducing tissue damage and excising the material naturally
to restore the shape of the lip as it was.

Where unverified foreign material such as liquid silicone, paraffin or petroleum jelly
has been injected into the body, even if there appears to be no problem in appearance, over time
it can cause serious side effects such as deformation of shape, inflammation, skin necrosis
and dermatitis, so treatment should be sought promptly from a board-certified plastic surgeon
with rich experience of the procedure.

TYPE 1

Removing foreign material through an incision in the oral mucosa of the lip

A surgical method in which an incision is made in the mucosa inside the lip and the foreign material is separated
from the normal tissue and removed. If the amount of material injected is not large and it is not
long-standing, removal is comparatively easy; but where the amount injected is large and the material is of
a kind with a high rate of tissue penetration, separation from normal tissue is difficult and
removal is not easy. In such cases excision should not be forced,
and depending on the case it is advisable to carry out removal in two or three stages.

TYPE 2

Removing foreign material through an incision at the lip line

The effective way to remove foreign material from the lip is the surgical method of dissecting it from the
skin tissue and removing it. Where the amount of material injected is small, it has not penetrated deep
into the skin and it is separated from the tissue, a good result can be obtained by removing it
with dissection. In particular, when foreign material is injected into the lower lip,
over time gravity causes it to move forward and downward.
That is, the material gathers in front of the lip line and the lower part of the lower lip protrudes.
In such cases removal is impossible through excision of the mucosa inside the mouth, and removing the
material through an incision at the lip line is the preferable method.
